Abstract

The scientific authority of the Quran, grounded in Quranic verses and traditions of the Ahl al-Bayt, has been a focal point for Islamic thinkers in the past century. While some earlier scholars like Ghazālī, Mullā Ṣadrā, and Fayḍ Kāshānī hinted at certain aspects of this authority centuries ago, modern-era thinkers including Sayyid Jamāl al-Dīn Asadābādī, ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Ḥusayn Ṭabāṭabāʾī, ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Ḥusayn Faḍl Allāh, Āyatullāh ʿAbdullāh Jawādī Āmulī, Imām Khomeinī, and Imām Khamenei have elaborated on various dimensions of the Quran's epistemic authority in their works. This paper presents 15 distinct meanings and applications of the Quran's scientific authority as discussed by these scholars. Notably, Imām Khamenei emphasizes its relevance in political, social, and cultural spheres as a comprehensive reference. Adopting an analytical and critical approach, the study evaluates these perspectives to offer a structured framework for understanding the Quran's multidimensional authority.
