Abstract

In the modern era, social media has influenced every aspect of human life, particularly the domain of child upbringing, where its positive and negative effects have become increasingly evident. The Holy Qur’an has clearly outlined the foundational principles of human education and upbringing, encompassing intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions. This study seeks to examine the effects of social media in the light of Qur’anic teachings. The research adopts a descriptive and analytical methodology, through which it is demonstrated that social media—when regulated by religious and ethical values—can serve as a constructive tool in fostering children’s intellectual and moral development. However, when its use becomes unrestrained and undisciplined, it leads to spiritual and moral decline, wastage of time, and a weakening of the parents’ educational role. In view of Qur’anic verses such as “Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire” (Al-Tahrim, 66:6), the study concludes that the positive use of social media, if guided by Qur’anic principles of purification (tazkiyah) and piety (taqwa), can play an effective role in shaping the religious and moral identity of the younger generation.
